THE entrepreneur development minister announcement of the “flying car” project was made without the cabinet’s knowledge, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said in its report.
“The announcement was made too early and without even informing the cabinet,” said the report, which was released today.
PAC also said there are no existing laws and regulations related to the use of flying cars in Malaysia.
It also found that neither the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MITI) nor Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) were consulted over the project.
The PAC report also disputed Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof’s statement that the ambitious project was a private-driven initiative.
“PAC found that MIGHT through VentureTech Sdn Bhd (VTSB) approved an investment of RM20 million in Aerodyne Ventures Sdn Bhd (AVSB).
“The Economic Affairs Ministry confirms that the fund was transferred by VTSB to AVSB on November 1, 2019,” the report said.
PAC recommended several actions on the issue, including urging the government to study carefully and plan properly before releasing details a project.
“This is so that it does not provide negative perceptions and become a source of criticism from the public.”
It also urged the National Audit Department to audit the RM20 million investment. – November 28, 2019.
