INTERNATIONAL Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed should wake up to the fact 1MDB has wrecked Malaysia’s international standing instead of vilifying Pakatan Harapan’s alternative budget, said Kelana Jaya MP Wong Chen.

“The PH Alternative Budget is a 75-page document that describes its policies, projections and narratives. Yet the sole reasoning provided by Mustapa to vilify our budget, rests on the question of our GST (goods and services tax ) computation.

Wong said section 2.2.2 of the PH Budget titled “Can we afford to eliminate GST?” detailed their plans on how to compensate the drop in GST revenue. 

“We even provided a table with computations. But Mustapha ignored this and chose to make a public statement we had no such plans. This is wrong.”

The PH budget committee chief said Mustapa’s allegation PH’s consumption numbers were questionable was bad as he did not give any counter arguments.

Mustapa called PH’s alternative budget, which was released yesterday in Dewan Rakyat, a repetition of old promises.

He said the opposition coalition, among others, promised to abolish GST and tolls, as well offer free higher education.

The latest alternative budget fell short in terms of substance, and the opposition was peddling rhetoric to mask its failure to come up with a credible economic agenda, Mustapa said. – October 26, 2017.
