PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil says the party is firm about fighting corruption while defending the sacking of two members on Sunday. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Nazir Sufari, November 26, 2019.

THE results of the probe into two party members and recommendations in a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) report, which was mistakenly sent to PKR, are still relevant and do not change the facts, said Fahmi Fadzil.

“The mistake aside, we found that the result of the investigation and the recommendations contained in the MACC report are still relevant.

“PKR is firm about fighting corruption and the MACC report was comprehensive. We have no qualms about using the report as a basis for the disciplinary action,” the PKR communications director told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

MACC deputy chief commissioner Azam Baki said it made a mistake suggesting disciplinary action against two PKR members.

“The MACC admits there was a mistake by a reporting branch head, through a letter to the party, which suggested disciplinary action (against the two members) for the violation of party code of ethics.

“According to ethical guidelines (to which the MACC must adhere), a report on any wrongdoing must only be sent to federal or state ministries and agencies,” Azam said yesterday.

On Sunday, PKR sacked central committee member Zakaria Abd Hamid and Pahang PKR member Ismail Dulhadi with immediate effect over suspicion of corruption and bribery during last year’s party elections.

Party disciplinary bureau chief Ahmad Kassim said the decision was made after advice from the MACC in a letter dated October 23 this year.

The MACC investigation followed a report filed by PKR youth co-ordinator Ahmad Syukri Che Ab Razak last year.

Zakaria, who is also Bera division chief, allegedly offered contracts worth RM20,000 and funding of at least RM300,000 at a meeting with local leaders on September 1, 2019, when running for a seat in the PKR central leadership council.

Meanwhile, Fahmi dismissed party vice-president Chua Tian Chang’s comments that their sacking was hasty and unfair. – November 26, 2019.
