THERE have been no structural changes under Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s leadership, said veteran PKR leader Syed Husin Ali as he reiterated his call for Anwar Ibrahim to take over as prime minister.

“He is reintroducing his dictatorial ways as prime minister. On economic policies, it is his cronies who are benefitting, not the people.

“Dr Mahathir is no longer suitable. What has changed after he took over? No reform policies, no benefits for the people. He didn’t deliver the changes that we wanted so he must go. He must go before May 9 2020,” Syed Husin said today at the Reformist Convention in Shah Alam.

Syed Husin said that Anwar, who PKR president and Port Dickson MP, had hoped that Dr Mahathir would step down so the transition could go on smoothly.

“He (Anwar) hoped for Dr Mahathir to back down sincerely and wholeheartedly. For me, I hope there will be an understanding when it finally happens.”

Syed Husin said he was worried about the transition plan as Dr Mahathir had not given a clear timeline on when he would hand over office to Anwar.

“He has not been clear. He has been saying different things. One day, he says this, another day he will say something else,” he said.

Prior to the 14th general election, Pakatan Harapan had agreed to name Dr Mahathir as prime minister, with Anwar taking over in two years’ time.

It was reported yesterday that Dr Mahathir had said the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council would decide on the date of the transition.

Anwar had also this morning said he would allow Dr Mahathir to continue serving as prime minister, before assuring that the transition would go on smoothly once it was confirmed by the PH Presidential Council.

The PH Presidential Council had previously agreed that Dr Mahathir would hand over the prime minister’s position to Anwar, but no time frame was set. – November 24, 2019.

  • ABSOLUTELY, the damage has been PH already, we need to mitigate the problem. The embracing of Zakir Naik by PM ( ZN berated, defamed and seditious hurt PH electorate) , the reference to Non-Malays at the Dignity Meeting, embracing the RACIST PAS a radical Islamic party that placed PH Non-Malay members as 2nd class visitors to the acquiescence of the PM and the divisiveness of PM policies on race poses a danger to Malaysia and Malaysians who dont want Mahathir 22 years of tyranny. We voted for Anwar Ibrahim and we want him to be PM. We dont like Mahathir using his cronies to get more UMNO MPs to join Bersatu
to hijack the elections that defeated UMNO. Mahathir , please leva ein style taking your son with you-we dont want dynasties in Malaysia like Lee Kuan yew. We want young intelligent Malays ( if so) who will bring the country to another level. Not making flying cars, Black shoes for children or promoting Bahasa Malaysia to teh Nepalese. These Otak Udang policies, ideas are stupid. Focus on top class education, good health system, pension plans for the people and employment.

  • Syed Husin is absolutely right-millions of members who supported PH, from Bersih and others thought that this appointment will be a short appointment, until the false allegations against Anwar Ibrahim justifying a conviction were reheard , acquitted, elections for MP position-then Anwar was supposed to take over. Now it looks like an ambush by this racist party ( KKK styled) Bersatu. Millions of right thinking Malaysians do not like Bersatu because it is racist based, divisive, segregates multiracial Malaysia and totally out of syn in the new Malaysia. My advise to DR M is please "GO" Malaysians had enough-you are pardoned for your sins-Sacking Judges ( Salleh Abas etc), aided corruption Taib ( Chief Minister Sarawak), closed an eye when a rape of a 15 year old girl was carried out from Rahim Tambi Chik and we can go on and on....please go. Dont cling on to power, like most leaders who then fell badly...go with "Malay dignity".
