HINDRAF 2.0 will continue to pressure Pakatan Harapan to fufil its manifesto promises for Indians, saying their problems can be solved at the stroke of a pen.
Its chief, P. Uthayakumar, said they wanted PH to end racist policies and fulfil 25 points in the manifesto promised to the Indian community.
“At the stroke of a pen, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PH leaders can solve all the Indians’ problems.
“It’s now a question of whether it wants to do it (for the Indian community) or continue with Umno-era racist policies,” the lawyer said after a rally in Brickfields today.
About 80 people turned up for the rally, which started at 2.15pm and ended abruptly at 3.30pm due to heavy rain.
It was held to commemorate Hindraf’s first mega gathering on November 25, 2007, over the government’s discriminatory policies against the Indian community.
The movement had led to a split into various groups, with Uthayakumar heading Hindraf 2.0 and his brother, P. Waytha Moorthy leading another.
Waytha is now a minister in the federal cabinet.
Uthayakumar said among the promises PH had failed to deliver for the Indian community included delivering identification cards and birth certificates within 100 days for stateless Indians, full aid for 526 Tamil schools, land for Indians and licences for stalls, car wash services and scrap metal dealers.
Uthayakumar added that Dr Mahathir had lost sight of the law.
“The rule of law is very clear. Take, for example, if one parent is a Malaysian citizen, then automatically, their children are citizens. But this has not happened.
“PH said the issue of ICs and BCs would be solved within 100 days. (Dr Mahathir) said ‘rule of law’, but he doesn’t follow the law.” – November 24, 2019.
