SULTAN of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar today emphasised the importance of maintaining harmony and unity among the people in the country.

In a speech posted on Facebook, Sultan Ibrahim said respect was due to the Malay rulers who have consented to grant the elected leaders the authority to govern the country.

“Secondly, respect the dignity of Islam in allowing other religions to be practised in peace and harmony.

“Thirdly, respect the privileges of the Malays who showed tolerance by sharing life with others in Tanah Melayu,” he said in the speech he had at a gathering with the people in Muar today.

The event at the Chung Hwa High School was held was in conjunction with Sultan Ibrahim’s birthday yesterday, and attended by more than 2,000 people.

Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar was present.

Sultan Ibrahim said these three important things must be understood and practised by every Malaysian.

“Tolerance, practised by the Malays under the rule of the Malay Rulers, should be reciprocated with respect from all other races and religions. This is what is shaping the unity of the people in Malaysia,” – Bernama, November 23, 2019.
