POLICE investigations into business tycoon Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, is closed, Home Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.

“The case is closed,” Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, told reporters after a TN50 dialogue on security at Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang, Selangor.

When asked if he was aware about reports that a luxury yacht purportedly belonging to Low was sighted off northern Aceh, Zahid said he has not received any report about it.

Zahid drew flak from Pakatan Harapan leaders for making an about-turn yesterday on Low, a central figure in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.

Zahid had told Parliament that the police had enlisted Interpol’s help to locate Low when responding to a question from Gombak MP Azmin Ali yesterday.

Later the same day, he issued a statement saying his remarks in Parliament were “manipulated” and that the Interpol request was inactive as case files involving Low were closed.

Azmin had taken to Twitter to ask Zahid if he had been scolded by his boss and a look at the Hansard would show “who’s faking the news”.

The US Department of Justice believes Low is the mastermind behind a scheme to siphon off money from state investment fund 1MDB.

His whereabouts are currently unknown.

Some 2,000 youth attended the 90-minute TN50 dialogue, moderated by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin. – October 24, 2017.
