THE Tg Piai by-election result shows that while voters rejected Barisan Nasional (BN) in the last general election, they are beginning to dislike Pakatan Harapan (PH) even more, said Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan today.

He said BN’s win in the Johor parliamentary seat last night by an unexpected margin of more than 15,000 votes was evidence that people were fed up with PH’s empty promises.

“The win last night does not mean the people like BN, honestly speaking.

“We had expected to win with a 5,000 majority, but 15,000 shows something is not right. It shows the people now hate PH because they cannot deliver their promises,” Mohamad said at an Umno Youth event in Janda Baik, Pahang.

He was giving the closing speech at a course for Umno Youth’s Skuad Sabil.

The squad is a uniformed body of volunteers that handles party security and charity activities.

In yesterday’s by-election, BN recaptured the seat it lost to PH in last year’s general election.

Its candidate Wee Jeck Seng of MCA polled 25,466 votes to the 10,380 obtained by PH’s Karmaine Sardini.

Voter turnout was about 74%, and the poll saw many Chinese voters who supported PH last year turned their backs on the coalition in this by-election.

Mohamad, who is also Rantau assemblyman, said PH has an “integrity problem” over its unfulfilled election promises.

“They are now facing an integrity issue and they can’t fix the problem.

“This is what happens to a party that set up on slander and empty promises.”

Also present was Umno youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dasuki.

Skuad Sabil, modelled after PAS’ Unit Amal volunteer corp, is to spearhead Umno’s campaign in the next general election to defeat PH, he said. – November 17, 2019.
