THE public are disappointed and are teaching Pakatan Harapan a lesson, veteran politician Syed Husin Ali said tonight in the aftermath of the coalition’s massive loss in Tanjung Piai by election.

Taking to Twitter, the former academic said that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad knew what he should do, adding that there should be no more delays in handing over the top post to Anwar Ibrahim.

“The result is clear. The people are disappointed and want to teach PH, especially Dr Mahathir. He knows what should be done and there should be no more delays,” he tweeted.

A long-time critic of Dr Mahathir, Syed Husin Ali just recently said the prime minister should not delay the agreed handover to Anwar.

In October, he wrote a letter saying the nation was heading towards crony kleptocracy under Dr Mahathir’s reign.

He has also previously ridiculed Dr Mahathir for claiming that he worked 18 hours a day.

“What 18-hour work is this when the country is being destroyed? Does a 94-year-old human being not eat, sleep, bathe, pray or rest? Is this seventh prime minister not human?” he said last September.

While official results are still pending, the outcome of Tanjung Piai by-election looks disastrous for PH and its Bersatu candidate, Karmaine Sardini.

An unofficial count shows Barisan Nasional’s Wee Jeck Seng taking a healthy 15,000 majority over Karmaine in the six-horse race. – November 16, 2019.

  • No more excuses. The public have just told TDM in no uncertain terms that they want him out.
Just step down and handover the reins to Anwar. And do it NOW.

  • Pls, for the sake of the country, Dr M, we plead to u , let the younger generation take care of the country. Activate the succession process immediately. The country is most important, not Bersatu or any political party.

  • Bersatu seems to be the weakest link. It seems that the only people really working are from DAP.

  • Yes, I dont blame them. The PM went on this KKK meeting ( Dignity of Malays) and berated all the other Non-Bumiputras supporting the radical islamist party PAS and UMNO ( the mother of all corrupted parties). Additionally, the pandering and "kowtowing" to Zakir Naik who echoes the sentiments of Dr Mahathir Mohamed-was teh straw to break the camels back. Believe me, millions of Non-Malays are also happy that Bersatu lost. PH did not lose , but Allah brought out a revelation that the devil is still in the Malaysians midst. Anyway, we need a strong opposition for a good democracy. I will vote Chinese if the PM speaks so badly about my race...you must be stupid not to. Go Malaysia Go.

    • Also right thinking Malays want a strong and clean UMNO as a political party to keep in check PH. Anwar Ibrahim must have the political will when he takes over ( soon I hope) to move to create a strong opposition to develop Malaysian democracy. Millions of Malays wanted change hen they voted PH. Mahathir is a TOTAL disappointment ( we should have known his old ways supporting people like Taib of Sarawak). Speaks volumes!!!
