BARISAN Nasional is leading by 477 votes in the Tanjung Piai contest, unofficial results released by Pakatan Harapan showed.

In the postal and early vote categories, BN got 273 votes to PH’s 162. Berjasa received 12 votes, Gerakan (3) and independent candidate Ang Chuan Lock (1).

In the Kukup state constituency, BN is ahead by 138 votes in Parit Rambai after counting for one of three streams, and leads by 228 votes after counting for one of four streams in Sg Durian.

The Tg Piai by-election is a six-way fight between Wee Jeck Seng of BN, Karmaine Sardini (PH), Wendy Subramaniam (Gerakan), Badrulhisham Abd Aziz (Berjasa), and Ang and Faridah Aryani Abd Ghani (independents).

It was called following the death of Dr Md Farid Md Rafik on September 21 due to heart complications. He was 42.

Farid, who was a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and an anaesthesiologist by profession, won the federal seat for PH in last year’s general election.

He polled 21,255 votes to beat Wee (20,731) and PAS’ Nordin Othman (2,962) with a 524-vote majority. – November 16, 2019.
