THREE Tanjung Piai voters have lodged police reports after they were prevented from voting this morning because their votes had apparently already been cast.

Habibah Abdul Gafor, Rihanah Soha and You Teong King lodged their respective reports at 12.30pm, at Permas police station in Kukup.

Habibah and Rihanah said, when they arrived at the SK Sungai Boh voting centre at about 10.30am this morning, they were told by Election Commission officials that their names have been marked, indicating that they had already voted.

Teong King meanwhile said the same thing happened to him when he went to vote at the SMK Sri Kukup voting centre at 11am.

“We came to vote but we found that our names have been marked, and someone else have voted on our behalf. We have been denied our right as voters.

“The proof that we have not voted is our finger, which is not stained with ink,” said Habihah after lodging her report.

A total of 27 polling centres in Tg Piai opened at 8am today for voters to elect their new MP. Polling will end at 5.30pm.

The by-election is taking place following the sudden death of Bersatu MP, Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, 42, on September 21.

The by-election is a six-horse race involving Karmaine Sardini (Pakatan Harapan), Wee Jeck Seng (Barisan Nasional), Wendy Subramaniam (Gerakan), Dr Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz (Berjasa) and two independents: Dr Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abd Ghaffar. – November 16, 2019.
