BN wants to discuss delineation in Parliament

BARISAN Nasional plans to propose a motion to discuss the delineation of constituencies at the Parliament sitting starting tomorrow, Nanyang Siang Pau reported today.

As no new parliamentary seats were being added, BN aims to get the new delineation proposal passed in the next sitting in December with a simple majority to prepare for the 14th General Election next year, the report quoted sources as saying.

Grassroots leaders have been told that a new electoral roll based on the new constituency boundaries will be used.

An MCA leader said BN might call for elections at the end of January before Chinese New Year to take advantage of the situation in Pakatan Harapan (PH), which he said was in a mess.

He believes Umno will not work openly with PAS so as to retain non-Muslim voters’ support, and will instead convince the Islamist party to go it alone. However, he drew a blank on Umno’s plans with PAS post-GE14.

He said he was confident MCA could win up to 15 parliamentary seats, or at worst, retain six parliamentary seats, in GE14.

MCA candidates have begun receiving funding to prepare for GE14 while Umno areas have received at least two disbursements.

Another BN leader said PH might win some rural Malay votes through former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“But he has destroyed the credibility of PH,” he said. – October 23, 2017.
