PAKATAN Harapan hopes the police will be “considerate” about their new permit requirement for door-to-door campaigning and walkabouts, said Muhyiddin Yassin.
“Although I have managed many election campaigns in the past, I have never come across this rule requiring election campaigners to get police permits for walkabouts or door-to-door campaigning,” the Bersatu president told a press conference in Pontian today.
“But we hope (the police) will be considerate and not impose this rule on PH or other candidates,” he added.
Muhyiddin said candidates and their election machinery should be given the space to canvass for votes.
“Permits are only required for big ceramah. This is to ensure there is law and order.
“But I have not received any reports (from the police) that there has been any danger or unhealthy activities in this by-election.
“So, I hope that all parties will be given the space to campaign in these last three days,” said the 72-year-old.
It was yesterday reported that parties would be required to obtain a police permit before conducting door-to-door campaigning.
Election Commission chairman Azhar Azizan Harun had said that it was the police and not the EC that had imposed the new requirement. – November 13, 2019.
