THE body of Yuan Kouk Wern, 27, was recovered today by search and rescue workers on the site of a landslide in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, today.

The body of the Malaysian site supervisor was extricated at 11.02am, bringing to a close the search for the 11 victims of the Saturday disaster on a construction site.

Penang state secretary Farizan Darus said the body will be sent to the Penang Hospital for a post mortem.

“The last body, of Malaysian Yuan Kok Wern, has been successfully recovered 11.02am just now.

“It is now headed for the Penang Hospital for forensics and a post mortem, and the family will be there.

“The body was found intact, there is no dislocation, fracture or anything,” he told reporters today at the site of the landslide.

It took the search team two and a half days to recover the bodies of all 11 victims, who were all foreigners with the exception of Yuan.

Farizan said the fire department would now flush the area to check for unreported victims that might have been trapped in the landslide.

“What we will do now is flushing, meaning the K9 unit will be brought in for a last check to see if there are any remaining bodies,

“According to our information, there isn’t supposed to be any more, but as a precaution, the K9 unit go in… we will be deploying all six dogs.

“Once that is done, we will announce that the search and rescue operation is (officially) over,” he said. – October 32, 2017.
