BARISAN Nasional’s victory in Tg Piai won’t be good for locals there as the pact is not in any position to deliver its promises, said Mukhriz Mahathir.
Voters there should instead back Pakatan Harapan’s Karmainie Sardini as he is a candidate from the ruling pact, said the Bersatu deputy president.
Mukhriz, who is also Kedah menteri besar, said Karmainie’s win would also allow for the good work initiated by the late MP Dr Md Farid Md Rafik to continue.
“What is the use of having an opposition MP? They can promise but they can’t do anything.
“Of course, they have made so many promises in this by-election campaign, but can they deliver?” said Mukhriz during a ceramah at Kg Lubuk Sawah in Pekan Nanas last night.
While BN candidate Wee Jeck Seng had a good track record as two-term MP for the constituency, the fact remained that he would struggle to deliver when the state and federal governments are in the hands of PH.
Tg Piai residents realised this during Farid’s tenure, he said.
“So far, the development brought by Farid to Tg Piai is RM14.7 million.
“Two terms under Wee, and 1½ under Pakatan, the elected rep here has done well.
“Now is not the time for the voters here to pick the opposition to represent them,” he added.

Speaking at the same ceramah, Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Salahuddin Ayub said only the ruling pact can deliver Farid’s promises to the constituency.
“Wee has been an elected rep for two terms but what had he done about the old jetty here? We were the ones who replaced it.
“We will deliver all the promises made by Farid, not Wee Jeck Seng.”
The Amanah leader also urged PAS members – now aligned to Umno and BN – to be aware that their leaders are inconsistent in their struggle, urging them to vote for Karmainie.
“I urge them to vote for Pakatan. They can’t accept today’s PAS as their leaders are not consistent.”
PH narrowly won Tg Piai in GE14 by 524 votes.
Six candidates are contesting the parliamentary seat but the front-runners are Karmaine and Wee. – November 9, 2019.
