A POLICE report has been lodged against the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Tanjung Piai by-election over his promise to sponsor umrah pilgrimages to Mecca for elderly voters if he wins the seat on November 16.
The report was lodged by PKR communication director Fahmi Fadzil at Travers police station in Kuala Lumpur this evening.
He said his report was based on a video clip which showed Wee Jeck Seng making that promise to the Tanjung Piai voters.
“I believe this is a form of gratification which goes against election laws,” Fahmi, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, said in a statement.
In the video clip, Wee, from MCA, is heard promising the elderly voters that he would sponsor their trip to perform umrah is they voted for him.
Karmaine Sardini of Pakatan Harapan’s Bersatu and Wee are the frontrunners in the six-cornered race for the parliamentary seat. – November 7, 2019.
