POLICE investigating yesterday’s landslide in Tanjung Bungah, Penang have classified the case as sudden death.
Northeast district police chief Anuar Omar said police were currently awaiting reports from the Fire and Rescue Department and engineers.
“The cause is still under investigation, the police are investigating it under a Sudden Death Report, and will wait for (the reports of) the fire department and the engineers,” he said to reporters on site today.
He also corrected errors in previous reports which said 14 workers were buried in the landslide and three had escaped with light wounds.
“The developer has confirmed that 11 workers were buried under – six have been found and five are still missing. Three escaped with light wounds (on the morning of the incident).
“The three who escaped are Bangladeshis. They have been discharged from the hospital.
“We are now searching for a Malaysian, three Bangladeshis and a Pakistani.”
He added that the consulates of Bangladesh and Indonesia had contacted the police to assist in investigations.
“The consulates of Bangladesh and Indonesia have contacted to aid in identifying the victims and other matters,” he said. – October 22, 2017.
