SEARCH and rescue teams have found another body under the Tanjung Bungah landslide.

State secretary Farizan Darus said that they were unable to identify the body as half of it was buried.

“We have found another body and we are working to get it out now as half of the body is still buried.

“The soil is still wet, and there are a few metal pipes near the body, so we have to do it manually or cut the metal to retrieve the body.

“We found his hat first. He has yet to be identified,” he said, adding that police were still looking for the three survivors of the landslide to assist in investigations.

The death toll, once the body is retrieved, will rise to seven as three bodies were recovered at the landslide earlier.

The Penang Fire and Rescue department in a statement today said two of the bodies found were Indonesians and the third was Myanmar. The bodies of three Bangladeshis were found earlier yesterday.

Search and rescue workers worked though the night to find the missing construction workers believed to be buried in the earth.

The nationalities of 14 victims are Malaysian (1) Chinese (1), Pakistani (1), Indonesian (1),  Myanmar (1) and Bangladeshi (9).

According to the developer, the workers trapped in the landslide, including a Malaysian site supervisor, were working on soil-nailing to enhance the stability of the temporary slope at the site when the incident happened.
