MOHAMED Azmin Ali has promised to settle any fees owed to a travel agency, if the bills check out.
“I have not seen the writ of summons. I have asked my officers to look into it and check with the travel agency,” said the economic affairs minister on the sidelines of the Sustainable Development Goals Summit in Kuala Lumpur today.
“If there are monies owed by me, I will pay as it is my responsibility. But, let my officers check first.”
It was reported yesterday that a travel agency has sued Azmin for failing to settle more than RM300,000 in payment due for private family trips and his visit to Sandakan for the Sabah constituency’s by-election in May, among others.
According to Sarawak Report, YHA Travel & Tours has filed court documents and noted that the amount includes the minister’s flights within a six-month period.
“Despite repeated demands for payments by the plaintiff and/or its representative from the defendant and/or his representative, the aggregate amount has not been forthcoming, even though the claimed sum was never disputed,” said the company in its writ of summons.
It is understood that case management has been fixed for December 3 at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.
Sarawak Report said the travel agency is demanding that Azmin pay up RM328,901, in addition to interest and other damages to be assessed. – November 6, 2019.
