A FOETUS was found trapped inside the sewage treatment plant in Taman Mahkota Impian, Jalan Bukit Timbalai, Labuan, by Indah Water Consortium (IWC) maintenance staff, this morning.

A team was carrying out scheduled maintenance at 8am when they were shocked to find the foetus trapped underneath rubbish in the sewage treatment plant for the 144 houses in the housing estate.

Labuan police chief Muhamad Farid Ahmad said an autopsy was scheduled for tomorrow.

“We are trying to determine the circumstances that led to the remains being discarded at the waste treatment plant… and the case is being investigated for concealment of birth by disposing of a body under Section 318 of the Penal Code,” he said.

The gender of the foetus is not known and it is believed to have been dumped 24 to 36 hours ago, because maintenance was also carried out on November 1.
