PAKATAN Harapan (PH) is confident it can fulfil the promise of creating one million jobs, said Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran.

“There are currently 640,000 job vacancies and these are not just 3D (dangerous, dirty and difficult) jobs.

“There are 21,000 vacancies for professionals and 22,000 jobs for technicians,” he told the Dewan Rakyat during question time this morning.

He said there will be 250,000 vacancies in the green economy of which 150,000 are being filled.

“Our problem is there are vacancies but nobody seems to want the jobs,” said Kulasegaran, who is also Ipoh Barat MP.

Kulasegaran was replying to a supplementary question from Ismail Sabri (Bera-BN) on whether PH could create the one million jobs it promised during the last general election.

Meanwhile, there is a marginal increase in terminations and retrenchments reported for 2018 and 2019, said the Human Resource Ministry.

Last year, there were 23,168 terminations in the private sector, including 5,932 retrenchments (25.6%).

“Up until this September, there were 24,600 terminations, including 2,975 workers retrenched through voluntary separation schemes,” said Kulasegaran.

“The manufacturing sector recorded the highest number of terminations of 7,944 (32.29%) while another 7,309 (29.71%) workers were terminated in the administration and services sectors.”

Similarly, 2,123 (8.63%) workers were terminated in the trading sector while 1,748 (7.11%) were terminated in the banking sector.

“According to statistics obtained from the government’s job portal, JobsMalaysia, in August there are 50,326 vacancies for graduates and 642,979 vacancies for non-graduates.” – November 4, 2019.
