Perlis mufti Asri Zainul Abidin has spoken up in defence of his poem, which seemingly criticises Hindus for deifying cows, saying it is criticism of Narendra Modi’s government in India.
Asri, who is popularly known as Dr Maza, today wrote on Facebook: “Some have questioned why I used the words ‘idolising cows’ in my poetry on Friday.
“This was to talk about the Modi government in India that has allowed Muslims to be brutally murdered because they ate beef.”
The Modi government told the people that cows were sacred and this indirectly caused the attacks on Muslims, said Asri.
Asri’s poetry, which appeared on Friday following news that India had issued a second warrant of arrest for controversial preacher Dr Zakir Naik, has been slammed by the Hindu community and many social media users.
Asri said those who did not idolise cows in this country should not be offended.
“The poem is about what’s happening in India. I believe that in our country, those who are highly educated will not idolise animals like cows nor are they willing to kill another person because of it.
Asri also defended his writing on the caste system in India, saying it should not offend Malaysians who did not hold such beliefs.
“A logical person would reject the caste system in India where certain castes are deemed pariah.
“There should not be belief in caste in our country, where we believe that all men are equal.” – April 22, 2017.

...APABILA YANG MEMPERTUHANKAN LEMBU BERSATU..
LANTAS MENYERU AGAR PENDAKWAH KITA DIBELENGGU..
MAHU DISERAHKAN KEPADA KERAJAAN ZALIM MENYEMBAH API DAN
PENGANUT SATI. .
Who has been protesting Zakir Naik’s sermons in Malaysia if not the Malaysians, not only the non-Muslims, especially Indians, but also Muslims?
Who wants him to be repatriated to India if not the Malaysians?
“DISINI PULA TIDAK PERNAH MEREKA BERTERIMA KASIH KEPADA APA YANG ADA ..”
Who does he mean here in Malaysia have never been grateful for what they have if not the Indians?
Does he realise that Malaysians have much to be thankful for for the immense contributions of the Indians in developing this country? It is the Indians who built the roads, the railway system and other important infrastructures before independence.
Hopefully Datuk Asri will repent and apologise to the Indian community.
