Sabah, Sarawak complete switch to digital TV

TELEVISION broadcasts in the country are now fully digital following the successful switch over of Sabah and Sarawak to myFreeview today.

It is the final transition after the process since September 30.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the transition proceeded smoothly as hitches were addressed by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

“As in any transition exercise, there would be problems but more importantly, MCMC is ready to settle them. Today is the day the transition to digital (TV broadcast) in Malaysia is completed,” he said.

When met after opening Maxis Business SPARK Summit 2019 in Kuala Lumpur today, he said the focus after this would be on improving digital broadcast content.

“The transition from analogue to digital, means we have the capability to increase the number of new channels. The number of channels, the types of content which need focus…will be announced soon,” said Gobind.

Through myFreeview digital TV broadcast, viewer get various TV and radio channels and new applications, such as online shopping, interactive learning via TV channels including  TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, TV9, Al Hijrah, Bernama, TV Okey and six radio channels. – Bernama, October 31, 2019.
