THE Sarawak government will follow the Prophet Muhammad’s example in state administration for justice and peace for all race and religious groups, Chief Minister Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the state would adopt the Medina charter drawn up by the Prophet himself, which among others, allowed non-Muslims to freely practise their religions in Medina.

“It will be our model in Sarawak to govern a multiracial and religious community. We will use the concept of coexistence, where we live together, live in harmony and live a good life. If this becomes our state concept, we can go far,” Abang Johari said.

He said this in his speech at a dialogue session with employees of Sarawak Islamic Council agencies here today.

Abang Johari said the government was considering whether there was a need to set up a unit for other religions (Unifor) to administer the affairs of other faith communities, like how the Islamic Council agencies manage Islamic affairs.

“What is important is to work with non-Muslims. I fear that (people) may ask why we need Unifor, we must be fair. It is important that our country is safe, so people can earn a living. If we are not peaceful, how to make a living?” he said. – Bernama, October 29, 2019.
