UMNO will not be offered positions in Kelantan and Terengganu executive councils seeing there are no vacancies, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

He said it is best that assemblymen from both parties support the state governments administered by them.

“The state governments will carry on as they are. It’s just that Umno is no longer opposition (in states run by PAS).

“The exco positions are all taken up. What is important is the cooperation between both parties,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

PAS controls the governments of Terengganu and Kelantan while Umno has Perlis and Pahang.

On Friday, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dropped hints that his party should be part of the Terengganu government.

He said this would allow two former Terengganu menteri besars from Umno, who are still elected representatives, to share their experience.

“We have not put any conditions thus far, but in the name of ‘muafakat nasional’ (national concord), ‘ada ubi tentu ada batas’ (surely there is reciprocation), we are not asking, but ‘menanam ubi, mestilah ubi itu berisi’ (there must be something to it).

“We are not asking, but in the name of cooperation, maybe the composition of the state government can be looked at in the future,” he was quoted as saying at Umno’s convention in Terengganu.

Tuan Ibrahim said Perlis Barisan Nasional had offered an exco position to its representative in the state, but PAS had turned it down and opted to just support the state government.

“Perlis offered as there is a vacancy, but we did not accept it, we will support the government there.”

He said this did not mean PAS had rejected the idea.

He added the Terengganu government had offered positions in several agencies to Umno representatives.

Both parties had signed a political charter to work together.

Last September, both parties had inked a charter, called “muafakat nasional”, and brought to an end nearly four decades of enmity between the two.

The charter also seeks to boost the opposition front ahead of the 15th general election.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had previously envisioned Umno joining its administration in Kelantan and Terengganu. – October 29, 2019.
