DR Mahathir Mohamad said he has no problem with the prime minister succession issue being discussed by the Pakatan Harapan presidential council.

“If there is a need to discuss it, it can be done by the presidential council,” he said when asked to comment on Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s statement yesterday that she is willing to discuss the matter in the council.

Dr Mahathir, who is also PH chairman, said the names and positions of the pact’s leaders were first proposed at council meetings.

“(This includes) Anwar Ibrahim’s position, as well as the proposal for me to be (PH) chairman and prime minister,” he told Malaysian media in Baku before departing for a two-day official visit to Turkmenistan.

Dr Mahathir, who attended the 18th Non-Aligned Movement Summit in the Azerbaijan capital, also said he is open to other parties wanting to discuss the power transition.

Dr Wan Azizah, asked to comment on Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s remarks that the leadership succession should be discussed internally, said she is agreeable to it. – Bernama, October 27, 2019.
