INDIA has hit out at Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his comments on Jammu and Kashmir, adding that Putrajaya needs to conduct serious introspection.

The prime minister’s comments are deemed unacceptable, the Indian Express quoted the Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Raveesh Kumar as saying.

“His statements are unacceptable and are not keeping with the facts and we hope Malaysia will do serious introspection on the position it has taken,” Raveesh said.

Touching on the issue of palm oil boycott, he said the decision it is the prerogative of the importing country to import any commodity or not.

“(The) decision to import any commodity or otherwise is the prerogative of the importing company”, at the “same time they are not impervious to the state of affairs between any two countries”, he said.

Dr Mahathir’s comments about Kashmir benefiting from a United Nations resolution and call for other countries to abide by it drew New Delhi’s ire.

Social media users joined the fray, calling for a boycott on all Malaysian goods with #BoycottMalaysia becoming one of Twitter’s top hashtags. – October 25, 2019.
