PAKATAN Harapan (PH) politicians should stop dragging him into its power play, said Hishammuddin Hussein.

The former Umno vice-president said PH politicians should not be threatened by someone who did not have any post or power.

“PH has no other work? The economy is in decline, the people are suffering. Are you all so busy politicking that you have forgotten your responsibility,” he asked in a Facebook post after the latest report linking him to power play in Putrajaya.

The former defence minister expressed his displeasure over a The Malaysian Insight news report claiming that he intends to get 30 Barisan Nasional MPs to support Dr Mahathir Mohamad to remain as prime minister.

“Today I am accused of trying to bring 30 MPs to stand behind Dr Mahathir. Who am I to convince these MPs. I am truly disgusted with the report and this is an insult to all of us,” he said in the post.

However, six Umno lawmakers today said they are in favour of Dr Mahathir staying on as prime minister until the 15th general election.

The six cited the economy as their reason for wanting the Bersatu chairman to remain and not be replaced by Anwar Ibrahim.

PH component parties have an agreement that Dr Mahathir will hand over his post to Anwar Ibrahim, and it is widely accepted that it will be done some time after May next year.

The six MPs who want the prime minister to stay a full term are Mohd Shahar Abdullah (Paya Besar), Adham Baba (Tenggara), Mastura Mohd Yazid (Kuala Kangsar), Abdul Rahman Mohamad (Lipis), Ismail Muttalib (Maran) and Ahmad Nazlan Idris (Jerantut).

Hishammuddin said he had seen five different stories in the last week on how he was working to change the government.

“They have shifted the goal post for five times in this one week. Are they so desperate?” he asked.

Hishammuddin previously denied any involvement to oust DAP and Amanah from PH after Anwar raised the matter in Parliament last week.

Anwar told opposition members not to fall for the idea and branded the strategy as nonsense.

Following the uncertainty, the secretaries-general of the PH council accused Hishammuddin of trying to destabilise the government.

They also accused the Sembrong MP of writing articles with racist tones while DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang had said his manoeuvres were aimed at defending former prime minister Najib Razak. – October 24, 2019.
