ALL MPs need to improve their attendance and performance during parliamentary sessions, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Liew Vui Keong today said today.

“I have informed all MPs that rules on attendance and performance in Parliament should be improved.

“At the same time, there will be an increase in parliamentary visits in the ministers and deputy ministers schedule,” he told reporters.

This comes after proceedings in Parliament were halted last week because there were not enough MPs in the House to constitute a quorum.

“I will take attendance of the MPs and monitor their performances. These reports will then be given to chief whip of the parties and to the PM,” he said.

Liew said he will leave the decision of revealing absentees to the party’s chief whip, adding that he met with chief whips from PKR, DAP, Amanah, Warisan and other component parties in Pakatan Harapan, who had given their comments on his suggestion.

This morning, prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that the quorum issue is typically brought up for political reasons. – October 22, 2019.
