THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has got the nod from the attorney-general to press charges against former PAS deputy president Dr Nasharudin Mat Isa tomorrow at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.

Nasharudin will be charged under the Anti-Money Laundering, AntiTerrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 and other Penal Code laws, MACC said in a statement this evening.

Nasharudin was arrested at 2pm today at the MACC Putrajaya headquarters where he had been summoned to assist in investigations.

He was later released on bail.

More would be revealed tomorrow after the charges are read out in court, MACC said.

Nasharudin is among those linked to allegations that some PAS leaders had received RM90 million of funds allegedly stolen from 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

Nasharudin said in February that he had submitted to MACC investigators relevant documents such as bank statements of personal accounts and of Yayasan Gerakan Kesederhanaan Global he headed.

MACC subsequently interviewed former PAS vice-president Husam Musa, now Amanah vice-president, who said he had the details of the RM90 million cash transactions allegedly linked to the leaders of his former party.

March saw MACC questioning more PAS leaders, Mursyidul Am, Hashim Jasin, Takiyuddin Hassan and Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.

MACC opened a probe into PAS after party president Abdul Hadi Awang withdrew a defamation suit against  Sarawak Report editor Claire Rewcastle-Brown, who wrote the expose alleging PAS leaders were the recipients of 1MDB’s millions.

Similar allegations were raised by PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli released a sworn statement that  Nasharudin had received 1MDB funds.

Nasharudin has dismissed the allegations as baseless slander. – October 21, 2019.
