INDIAN Muslim preacher Dr Zakir Naik is suing Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy for defamation over comments the DAP politician made in three articles and an interview, Free Malaysia Today reports.
Dr Zakir filed the suit at the Petaling Jaya High Court, seeking damages and a ban on Ramasamy from publishing or distributing reports in any medium, and that an apology to be published in newspapers and news portals within seven days.
He said Ramasamy had ridiculed him, depicted him as a bad character and a threat to Malaysia’s security.
Dr Zakir said Ramasamy had called him “satan” in a Facebook post two years ago, and had written the defamatory article “Is Malaysia harbouring alleged fugitive Zakir Naik?” published on FMT in 2017.
He said Ramasamy had on August 11 twisted his speech in Kota Baru to say that Dr Zakir had questioned the loyalty of Malaysian Hindus.
Dr Zakir said an interview published on India Today on August 20 was Ramasamy’s attempt to spread hatred against him worldwide.
FMT said Dr Zakir also sent letters of demand to Human Resources Minister M. Kula Segaran, Klang MP Charles Santiago, Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy and former ambassador Dennis Ignatius. – October 18, 2019.
