THE Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry is tightening security for the petrol subsidy website following a breach of recipients’ banking details.
Steps have been taken to protect recipients’ details, including their banking information, it said in a statement.
“Referring to the technical issues concerning the official portal of the petrol subsidy programme, the ministry has taken immediate action to address the problem.
“The ministry takes seriously the aspects involving the integrity and data security of PSP recipients, and would always take proactive steps to protect their data.
“At 1pm on Thursday, the technical issues have been successfully addressed and the PSP portal has been reactivated with improvements to its system and data security aspects,” the ministry said.
A tech website yesterday highlighted that the petrol subsidy website allowed users to view the full bank account numbers of each recipient on the source code of the results page.
The tech site said it tested some random MyKad numbers and were able to obtain the full account numbers of the eligible recipients.
Following this, the ministry immediately suspended the newly launched petrol subsidy microsite.
The website went live on Tuesday to allow users to find out if they are eligible for petrol subsidy as announced in Budget 2020. – October 18, 2019.
