UMNO leader Hishammuddin Hussien said today he was a “nobody” to stop Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the next prime minister, adding that the PKR president should stop worrying about such conspiracy theories.

The former Umno vice-president said he holds no position in his own party and that such claims do not make sense as Barisan Nasional is just an opposition party.

“Who am I? I don’t hold any position in my party to influence them to stop Anwar from becoming the next PM.

“We’re the opposition. What has it got to do with the prime minister’s position? It doesn’t make sense,” he said at the Parliament lobby.

The Sembrong MP also asked if Anwar lacked confidence in his own party’s support to become the next PM.

“Does he feel that he needs the support of BN and Umno to be the next PM? If he needs the support from us, does that mean he does not have confidence in the support from his own party.

“I think Anwar feels that the entire world is only concerned about him becoming the next PM. I think there are so many things,” said Hishammuddin.

Yesterday, Pakatan Harapan ticked off Hishammuddin “and his colleagues”, urging them to stop pushing the idea of a government without DAP and Amanah.

“Hishammuddin, in his writing and interviews, has signalled a tendency that returns to race-based politics and governance,” the PH secretaries-general said in a joint statement yesterday.

“This is outdated politics that completely goes against Harapan’s ideals of inclusiveness.”

Earlier today Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad denied holding talks with Hishammuddin to form a government without DAP and Amanah.
