ECONOMIC Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said today there was no rift between him and PKR party president Anwar Ibrahim, nor was there anything to settle between the two.

The party deputy president said he had discussed matters of poverty and Putrajaya’s Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 during their meeting in the Parliament lounge today.

Azmin said there was no conflict between him and Anwar, and there was nothing to settle.

“Was there a conflict? No,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

Earlier last week, PKR founding member Syed Husin Ali said that Azmin had plans to leave and form a new party, amid fallout from the sex video scandal, in which he was implicated, earlier this year.

This morning, Anwar brushed off talk that his meeting Azmin was a reconciliation.

“It was just a normal meeting. We talked about the country’s economic problems.

“Party matters are under control… We discussed the economy,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

PKR secretary general Saifuddin Nasution was also present at the meeting in the lounge, which last a little less than half hour.

Azmin said he doesn’t need to be persuaded to attend party gatherings because it was his responsibility to do so.

“If I have no government duty, I will definitely be in the party programmes,” Azmin said.

It was previously reported that he had not attended any central leadership council meetings since he was elected in November 2018.

Last month, Anwar said he had personally reminded Azmin to attend party meetings, while Azmin had also said it normal for leaders to skip party meetings. – October 15, 2019.
