LEMBAGA Zakat Selangor (LZS) will continue to cooperate in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds involving its board and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).

LZS chief executive Saipolyazan Mat Yusop said the board has referred the case to MACC for further investigation and action.

He said LZS always shares information on zakat activities in the state.

“This includes airing TV programmes aimed at raising awareness on zakat payment. Such programmes are managed by a professional advertising consultant appointed by LZS in accordance with the prescribed procedure, scope and price of the contract, and using funds managed by collectors,” he said in a statement today.

Under the contract, he said, the advertising consultant is given full responsibility to deal directly with media companies.

Yesterday, it was reported that two senior officials with RTM have been remanded for nine days, until tomorrow, to facilitate MACC’s investigation into the alleged abuse of LZS funds.

MACC chief Latheefa Koya had said the two women, aged 37 and 40, were among three people arrested on October 7.

The third individual was released after questioning.

Saipolyazan said LZS has a policy in place, whereby any party can report misconduct by its staff to the anti-graft agency.

“LZS will not hesitate to file a complaint with MACC if it receives word on corruption by staff members, and will cooperate with the authorities to ensure zakat money is protected.” – Bernama, October 14, 2019.
