UMNO will file for a judicial review of a compound notice issued by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to the party to return money it allegedly received from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Umno Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan said MACC’s action was inappropriate because there were two ongoing cases in the courts involving 1MDB.

“The SRC International case and the 1MDB trial are still ongoing. So we feel MACC is acting beyond its bounds while these cases are still in court,” he said, referring to the two corruption trials of former Umno president Najib Razak.

“Our lawyers will file a judicial review so that the MACC demand can be delayed until after the cases are resolved in court,” Maslan said in a press conference at the Umno headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

On October 7, MACC issued 80 compound notices to nine individuals and 71 entities including Umno, MCA, MIC, Gerakan and myPPP, as part of a move to recover RM420 million belonging to 1MDB.
