INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Abdul Hamid Bador has urged Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) to lodge a police report over the alleged wrongful detention and torture of two individuals in Kangar, Perlis.
“I have not been informed on the issue but I urge them to make a police report,” he said in Bukit Aman this morning.
Hamid, however, was confident that his men from the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) had conducted an internal probe into the incident.
“In cases like this, usually the JIPS will have opened an investigation even before a police report is lodged. That is the standard operating procedure. I am sure the issue is being looked at,” he said.
Yesterday, Suaram executive director Sevan Doraisamy said the father and son – Pukalanthee Rajoo and Linggeswaran Pukalanthee – had been tortured under custody, and accused the police of failing to conduct initial investigations before making the arrests.
According to reports, the duo had been arrested on September 21 but and released on September 25.
It was reported that the duo had been hired to tar roads in a residential area and had rented a car for this purpose.
A complaint was later lodged by a woman, who told the cops that they two men had been acting suspiciously in the housing area.
Suaram legal adviser Shashi Devan said both men have since lost all their job contracts.
Devan said they were considering filing a suit as the next course of action. – October 12, 2019.
