TOLL charges for all PLUS Malaysia Bhd highways will be reduced by 18% under the options the government is looking at for the concessionaire.

Proposals on whether Khazanah Nasional Bhd should acquire all shares in the company or dispose of its holdings will be considered by the cabinet, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng when tabling Budget 2020 in Parliament today.

There will be a “minimum reduction of average toll charges (of) 18% across all PLUS highways”.

“Such proposals must be fiscal-positive, without increasing the present debt burden or debt-service charges of the government. At the same time, the 18% discount for toll charges for the North-South Expressway will save road users up to RM1.13 million in 2020, and RM43 billion over the entire concession period until 2038.”

He also announced the lowering of the toll rate for cars using the Second Penang Bridge from RM8.50 to RM7, effective January 1 next year.
