THE Malay Dignity Congress was staged managed by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who had manipulated Malay academics and used public universities for his political interests, said Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Khaled described the congress as Dr Mahathir’s “greatest political show to date” and dismissed the perception that it had the support of all Malays.
“This congress has not attracted the attention nor has it become a topic of a conversation among the Malays.
“It is seen as a gathering of the Malay elites who are greedy for power and endlessly belittle their own race for political survival,” he said in a statement today.
The congress yesterday was organised by four public universities – Universiti Malaya, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Mara – to discuss and find solutions to problems faced by the Malays.
Khaid did not attend but his party was represented by secretary-general Annuar Musa, while PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali were also present.
Listing four reasons why the gathering had little to do with Malay dignity, Khalid said it was not inclusive and not for all Malays.
“It was not born from the desperation of the Malays to develop and restore their race. It was not a movement for the survival of the race.”
Khaled said the congress was a political gathering “to show the powers and egoism of Dr Mahathir”.
“He has been successful in playing the sentiment that Malays all over the world have to hear the last will of this neo-liberal Malay figure.
“By gathering all the academics and leaders of all national political institutions, he has given the assumption that all the Malays have been supporting him.
“This congress has directly used public universities for a party’s political purpose and Dr Mahathir’s political ambition.”
He said if the congress was about the feelings of the Malays, then why all its resolutions were not addressed by Dr Mahathir in his speech.
Khaled added if the congress was designed to rival the national consensus of Umno and PAS, it had failed because Bersatu is not a large, significant and proven Malay party.
He said with the popularity of the ruling Pakatan Harapan and Dr Mahathir himself have been sliding down slowly.
“It shows their desperation to remain relevant to the Malays.
“God willing, the Malays will never again be taken for a ride by Dr Mahathir for his personal interests.”
Khaled said the prime minister had failed to use the opportunity at the gathering to explain how his government would protect the interests of the Malays and advance them.
“If it is merely to rebuke the attitude of the Malays, it can be done at the Bersatu general assembly.” – October 7, 2019.

Khaled is an UMNO man; so it would behoove me that I lend credence to any of his views. But this one - I will accord it so. B'cos he does call out this Congress + Mahathir for they are:- a " political gathering to show the powers and egoism of Dr Mahathir.
My added proviso is this - may the Malays never be taken for a ride by UMNO + PAS too, for their personal interests.

If they are so easily be manipulated then they are just a bunch of retards. Bare in mind they are supposed to be from the Malay 'highly educated intellectual group'.
No wonder we have so many unemployable graduates because they were being coached by the retards!
