PETALING Jaya City councillor Lim Yi Wei was today questioned under the Peaceful Assembly Act for her role in organising the kleptocracy rally at Padang Timur on Saturday.

Lim was a member of the organising committee who had been in contact with the police before the rally.

“The investigating officer asked me more than 10 questions on the rally,” she said.

“I am not sure if I would be charged. I hope not,” she told reporters after having her statement recorded.

Police had last week advised the organisers to shift the rally to the Kelana Jaya stadium after receiving more than 20 reports from residents staying near Padang Timur out of fear that the roads would be congested..

The rally, however, went ahead at Padang Timur without any untoward incidents reported.

Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun had warned the organisers that they risked being hauled up for going ahead with the rally at Padang Timur.

Lim is being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Lim’s lawyer Vince Tan said the first half of the questioning was on Lim’s family background.

As for the investigation under the PPA, Tan said police are focusing on the restrictions and conditions imposed on the rally.

“Police may have their own interpretation of the law ,” said Tan, adding that Lim stands to be fined up to RM10,000 if convicted. – October 16, 2017.
