HOME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin called on more employers and companies to provide jobs for recovering drug addicts.
He said that from January until September this year, more than 1,100 employers had opened their doors to recovering drug addicts, providing jobs to nearly 40,000 people under supervision (OKP) until July this year.
“Based on studies concerning drug rehabilitation, employment factor is one of the components that determines the success of rehabilitation for drug addicts.
“A job offers former addicts an opportunity to better themselves towards realising their goals, improving family and social relationships, and building their social stability,” he said when opening the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) programme with AADK director-general Zulkifli Abdullah in Kajang today.
Muhyiddin said, as tabled in the 2019 Budget, the government provides tax exemption to employers that employ recovering drug-addicts.
This, he said, was with the hope that it would encourage employers or companies to take AADK clients as their employees.
“This can be seen as a corporate social responsibility (CSR), aside from reducing the country’s dependence on foreign workers,” he said. – Bernama, October 3, 2019.
