WATER has been restored to several parts of Klang Valley, affected after the Semenyih Water Treatment Plant stopped operation yesterday.

Nearly half of the 372,000 Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) customers in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang districts were reported to be receiving water supply by midday.

According to an Air Selangor statement, water tankers will continue to deliver water and 10 local service centres will operate for 24 hours until water is fully restored.

Yesterday, Air Selangor announced the Sg Semenyih Water Treatment Plant had to cease operation after an odour pollution incident.

The unscheduled water disruption was believed due to pollution from the Bandar Bukit Mahkota sewage treatment plant.

Meanwhile, Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) said the closure was due to illegal dumping, not the IWK plant.

According to an IWK statement, IWK personnel and teams from the Department of Environment (DOE), Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), National Water Services Commission (SPAN) and Air Selangor inspected the plant and found the odour was from a chemical substance 2km from the IWK plant.

“IWK and DOE have lodged police reports on illegal dumping.

“At about 10 pm, IWK with the assistance of police, opened a manhole in the area and found the odour started from the manhole,” the statement said.

LUAS and Air Selangor inspected IWK plant again at 1am and LUAS allowed IWK to continue operation as usual. – Bernama, September 29, 2019.
