SEVERAL GrabCar drivers received a pleasant surprise yesterday when they opened their Grab wallet to find “bonuses” inside.
A GrabCar driver, who wished to be known as Muthu, 38, said he was surprised to find money credited into his electronic wallet, and had assumed that it was a Deepavali bonus.
“I received RM900 in my Grab wallet yesterday evening, I thought it must have been a blessing from Grab before Deepavali. I also heard that a few of my friends had received it,” he told The Malaysian Insight.
Little did Muthu know then that the money in his account was due to a technical error that would be rectified tonight.
“They contacted me today saying it was a technical error and apologised. I don’t mind actually. I think of it as a cruel joke from God, asking me to do more charity,” Muthu said.
Another driver, who identified himself as Johnny, said he also received the “bonus” in his Grab Wallet, but had known immediately that it was an error as it was not possible that he had earned such a sum in a week.
“Grab usually credits our fares collected for the week, from the Grab wallet to our bank accounts, every Thursday. So when I received the RM500 yesterday, I knew immediately that it was a technical error. So, I left it as it was,” he said.
Johnny later received a text message from Grab apologising for the mistake, which would be fixed tonight.
“They also reminded us to keep a minimum float of RM30 in our account to keep it active in the text message, and that was that,” he said.
A spokesman from Grab confirmed there was a technical problem, but it had since been rectified.
“We are aware of the technical glitch,” the person said. – October 14, 2017.
