POLICE are in the midst of seeking help of independent experts on the sex videos which allegedly implicate Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, said Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador today.

The case involves various technical issues that are beyond police capability, he said.

“There are such specific technical details in this case. It is not easy for us to understand all of them.

“As the IGP, I don’t have any experience on such matters,” he said after an event today.

Investigators have received instructions from the Attorney General’s Chambers to get further opinion from experts, he said.

“We are getting second, third opinion from those with the expertise on such matters.

“The problem is that these experts must also be willing to come and testify in the trial later.”

Earlier this month, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed said police have received a report from British audio-visual forensic experts on the sex videos.

The report from Birmingham-based Verden Forensics was submitted by Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam.

Huzir said the Verden Forensics report has been submitted to Cybersecurity Malaysia for further action and that investigation papers have been forwarded to the AGC.

In July, Hamid said Cybersecurity Malaysia found that while the video was authentic, the facial recognition process failed to link Azmin with the videos, which depicts two men engaging in sexual activity.

The video clips first surfaced via WhatsApp in May.

Following that, former Santubong PKR youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz admitted it was him in the video, and claimed the other man was Azmin.

Azmin, the PKR deputy president, said he is a victim of a conspiracy to end his political career. – September 25, 2019.
