PENANG information officer Wan Ji Wan Hussin has been detained under the Sedition Act for allegedly insulting the sultan, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun confirmed.

Fuzi said Wan Ji, who was recently appointed as Penang information officer, had had a police report made against him for the alleged offence.

“Wan Ji was detained under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act on suspicion of insulting the sultan,” he said after attending an event at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) today.

He said the police had also received several reports against Wan Ji before.

On the remand of Pertubuhan Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah (Aswaja) president Zamihan Mat Zin, Fuzi said his remand duration will depend on the progress of the investigation.

“If we do not extend (the remand), then we will release him on bail,” he said.

Yesterday, Fuzi said Zamihan was being investigated under the Sedition Act and he was detained at the Dang Wangi police station after having his statement recorded at 3.50pm on Wednesday. – Bernama, October 13, 2017.
