COMMUNICATIONS and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said he is waiting for a full report on the massive data breach that caused the leak of Malindo Airways Sdn Bhd passengers’ personal data.

He said his ministry will take further action after seeing the full report on the alleged data breach.

“I am waiting for the report first. I will then have a look at it and will decide on the next move.

“There is no timeline for the report but we hope it could be done quickly,” he told reporters after an event in Putrajaya today.

It was reported earlier that the personal data of millions of passengers were leaked in a massive data breach affecting Lion Air, Malindo Air and possibly Batik Air, also another Lion Air subsidiary.

The data includes passport details, home addresses and phone numbers.

Malindo Airways said its in-house teams along with external data service providers, Amazon Web Services and GoQuo, are currently investigating the breach.

“We are in the middle of notifying the various authorities both locally and abroad including CyberSecurity Malaysia… and are also engaging with independent cybercrime consultants to investigate and report into this incident,” said Malindo Airways.

Tech website Bleeping Computer, which reported on the data breach, said the records of passengers “have been circulating on data exchange forums for at least a month”. – September 19, 2019.
