FLIGHTS departing from the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Ipoh to Singapore and Johor Baru are again cancelled due to the smoke.

Airport manager Mohd Ali Osman said all flights from Singapore-Ipoh-Johor Baru  (AirAsia); Ipoh-Johor Baru-Ipoh (Malindo) and Singapore-Ipoh-Singapore (FlyScoot) were cancelled.

He said six return flights to Singapore and Johor Baru could not take off due to the smoky conditions.

“Two flights were cancelled this morning since 9.45am,” he told Bernama today.

Chong Kwai Fong, 55, said he was to have caught the Malindo flight to Johor Baru at 1.25pm today after the flight was cancelled yesterday.

“At 8am, I received a message that the flight has been cancelled again today so I had to come to the airport to get a replacement ticket for the next flight,” he said.

Meanwhile, in Sarawak, three planes were diverted to the Miri airport after dense smog made landing impossible at the Sibu Airport this morning.

Sibu airport manager Zainuddin Abu Nasir two AirAsia flights from Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur and one MasWings flight from Bintulu were ordered to divert.

The incoming Kota Kinabalu flight with 78 passengers on board was ordered to divert at 7.30am, the Kuala Lumpur-Sibu flight with 106 passengers at 7.55am and Bintulu-Sibu (17 passengers) at 8am.

More planes could be diverted depending on their arrival time, he said. – Bernama, September 18, 2019.
