THE Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has issued a temporary ban on preacher Zamihan Mat Zin from all mosques and surau in the state, The Star reports.
Jais director Haris Kasim issued a letter yesterday informing all mosque and surau administrators that the president of Persatuan Ahli Sunnah Was Jamaah (Aswaja) was now being investigated for sedition.
Yesterday, Zamihan was remanded for two days to facilitate investigations under the Sedition Act for allegedly criticising the Johor sultan’s ban on Muslim-only launderettes in the state.
Following the investigation, Haris said all administrators of mosques and suraus at the grassroots level were directed to “temporarily suspend” Zamihan’s lectures, effective immediately.
Zamihan’s case is being investigated by a special team from the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.
The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), in a statement on Wednesday, confirmed that Zamihan was under its employment, but was seconded to the Prison Department under the Home Ministry.
Checks on Jakim’s website showed that Zamihan was given the title of “Islamic affairs officer” and is attached to the ministry’s publications and Quranic text control division. – October 13, 2017.
