AN anti-corruption task force set up to look into the Auditor-General’s Report has detected elements of crime and graft in some of the government projects mentioned in the document, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Latheefa Koya said today

The MACC chief said the task force was investigating the cases.

“There are several cases involving corruption or crime.  We are in the midst of investigating those with criminal elements,” she said in Kota Kinabalu, today.

Latheefa was speaking after paying a visit to Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal.

She announced on July 22 that a task force had been formed to attend to the suspicious cases in the Auditor-General’s Report.

Meanwhile, Latheefa said the MACC has not received an official complaint on Chinese nationals allegedly being issued the MyKad.

She said MACC could not take action based unless it had information to go on.

“If there is a complaint, we will look into it… (but now) We don’t have info so we can’t make a move, ” she said.

Police in Penang last week busted a syndicate selling fake MyKad. They arrested several individuals, including high-ranking government officers for allegedly issuing the document to a Chinese national.

They were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

This came about after the Penang Immigration Department reported to police that a Chinese woman had applied for a Malaysian passport with a MyKad but was unable to communicate in the national language.

The source said the police report led to the special operation which detained several individuals and crippled a syndicate which had sold more than six MyKad for RM350,000. – September 11, 2019.
