THE Registrar of Societies (RoS) will take action against any political party or association that contravenes their constitution or flouts the law, said Muhyiddin Yassin.

The home minister said allegations of wrongdoing against any association or political parties would be handled by the RoS.

”(The RoS) will look (into reports) from every aspect of the law; if the organisations or associations have contravened their constitution or the law itself.

“Then, the RoS will take the appropriate action,” he said after a meeting with Johor Dong Zong representatives in Putrajaya today.

He was commenting on Dr Mahathir Mohamad remarks last week, in which the prime minister had questioned why the authorities had yet to initiate investigations into wrongdoings committed by Umno.

He had said it was baffling that despite Umno’s alleged misconduct, no action has been taken against the party.

Dr Mahathir had said that when he was Umno president, the party had been banned when three branches failed to convene meetings.

“Bersatu, too, was banned just before the 14th general election last year. Umno has committed several offences, and yet, it… has not been deregistered.

“I urge for action to be taken against the party,” he had said after a Bersatu meeting last Friday. – September 4, 2019.
